🔴 New Greenpeace campaign attacks Bitcoin, claiming it uses fossil fuels. Is it true? Let me show you the data 💬👇

🔴 Greenpeace in collaboration with Benjamin Von Wong created a spot, campaign which should rise the awareness about Bitcoin being harmful for the environment. The goal is to convince the audience that Bitcoin is bad and requires… protocol change, get rid of Proof of Work in order to stop mining. One of the main claims is that Bitcoin energy is coming from polluting fossil fuels like coal and gas. Is it true?

🔴 The Bitcoin Mining Council association aggregates Bitcoin miners as a transparent, open forum community committed to the network and its core principles. Currently, the community consist of 48.4% of the global Bitcoin mining network. Their regular reports claim that currently 🔸58.9% of energy spent on Bitcoin mining comes from sustainable sources🔸 It’s opposite of Greenpeace propaganda.

🔴 In Crypto-Assets-and-Climate-Report coming from whitehouse.gov I found that “from September 2019 to August 2021, an average of 30% of the electricity used by Bitcoin came from hydroelectric, solar, wind, and other renewable sources”.

🔴 Asking ChatGPT for the topic, you’ll get the answer that Bitcoin is using fossil fuels. Asking about the sources, it will mention research docs from 2019/2020. I went through 3rd Global Cryptoasset Benchmarking Study (Cambridge University) from 2020, where they claim ~60% of Bitcoin energy comes from fossil fuels. Most of these data include China as a mining leader (they had ~65% mining power) where in fact coal was the main energy source. But – in 2021 mining in China was officially banned🔥 Data, reports before 2021 are simply no more relevant. Things changed.

🔴 Bitcoin digitalizes energy. When you understand it, you will get how revolutionary it is. Every country at the world has the fair opportunity to be part of this global system. This is the hardest money we ever had, and its properties also make it as a most fair payment system ever.

🔴 Greenpeace spot is late few years. However, there’s a value from this spot – Bitcoin awareness rises, this community is not afraid of hard questions. And The Skull of Satoshi created by Benjamin Van Wong is one of the greatest Bitcoin art ever created. Bitcoin community just love it 😎
